I am late to reading this series but I have finally done it.. They made it to the top of my TBR and were the first reads of 2026 for me. This book was such a great book to start the year off with. I hope it sets the tone for my year... Great books all year! No duds. 🙃
On to the review......The magic system in this book I think is what set it above par for me. I loved the uniquness of it. One Dark Window brought a fresh take to fantasy for me. Yes I know its not 5 stars for me and the only reasoning I can come up with is I felt this book could have had more action, maybe that isnt the right word. Conflict, perhaps. It seems like secret Elspeth held in for so long everyone was hiding so when you assumed there would some back and forth, it just wasnt there. Now that being said this book still had a lot of shocked moments for me. I laughed. The Nightmare is by far my favorite character in the book. The riddles and the rhymes, he is funny, sarcastic, and rude! Everything you want in the "bad" guy, right?
If you are like me and just havent picked this up yet... Definitely move it up on your TBR. I recommended it to someone just today looking for a great fantasy read.
